good work flow

my old hairdresser (i only saw him for a little over a year though) moved to NZ and i went to someone else in the same salon. if he hadnt moved, i wouldve gone elsewhere anyway, unfortunately. he was funny and interesting, but also veeery negative and just eager to move away. on every visit i would hear the same intense rant on how horrible the UK is, how poor his health is... and i was exhausted afterwards. felt like mental work. anyway the new hairdresser not only did a good job with my hair but was pretty chill and more optimistic in his outlook overall. so he is a keeper i think.

New York Times: Turkey's people are resisting autocracy. They deserve more than silence.

i met this guy recently (long story) for drinks, like as a potential friend sort of, no agenda. anyway interesting normal person but i got this distinct feeling that i was an audience, that i was being "talked at". ive been in that position many times in my life but i did not recognise it very well when i was younger, probably just felt weirdly bored and annoyed. but now i can say that it has happened a lot, and its typically men who do this; talk AT you, not with you. its not malicious, these are regular men i guess, but maybe on the overconfident side - the kind who believe they understand most subjects better than others etc. which then leads to this situation where a lot of the "talking at" is educational - like a mild version of mansplaining. also theres possibly the assumption (on a subconscious level) that the listener does not have anything to contribute cos they dont really give space for contributing. hence the other person indeed is a listener, not a conversation partner. i didn’t enjoy this dynamic and will try avoid it in the future.

i went to my friends Eurovision watch party and decided i’ll skip next year. the israel stuff is just too much, i got so annoyed. i felt like Austrias winning entry was somehow a copy of last years winner, Nemo. but in the end i had to hope it would win over Israel. Sweden (and others) borrowing artists from neighbouring countries is also annoying and doesn’t make sense. i thought KAJ’s sauna song was catchy and fun. and our Erika’s sex positive song about a woman’s orgasm was overall ok - not my fav music but good performance and a very important topic! also catchy. i might get an Ich Komme shirt cos, well, i’m all for it.

ads are always exaggerating, but seeing these social media ads on repeat where it says something like “skip botox use this sleep mask instead”, is really pushing it. i want a nice sleep mask but im not delusional.

update on Tom the foster cat: he stayed with us about 2 weeks and was picked up for a long trip over to the coast. he did not get comfortable with us, and seems like he was just too feral to live in a home. so he was taken to a farm where he will have access to food and indoors too, if he chooses. but he doesnt need to interact with humans if he doesnt want to.

Tim Burton expo in design museum where i went with Aleks.

random pics from Helsinki. the first half of the trip i had company, Can & Burcu. I gave them a list of things to do, and visited some places with them - its been a while since i sa so much of helsinki tbh. the cathedral, design district, Oodi library, Stockmann...  we also went to Allas sea pool for a sauna and swim experience.

our new office is in Hakaniemi (above is from nearby). i like how its shaping up, nice place. we had company development days during my stay too, staying overnight in espoo. i joined the hackathon as we were testing various AI coding tools, and ended up developing my first software using Claude Code. its functional with a user interface etc (of course). it was based on a need to compare marketing plans with reference material, so required upload of files and then AI analysis and comparison. obviously took me a while and was not without struggles, but in the end it worked. i was surprised and a bit shocked. it opens a lot of opportunities for a non-coder like myself.

i got these trainers from a second hand shop in helsinki. technically they are missing the laces but it's not too obvious, i like them as they are and wont add laces. i washed them in the machine and painted the soles black, as they were originally white.

a protest against the genocide in Gaza in Kensington yesterday. its horrifying to observe this happening while western leaders seem too sheepish to do anything.

all modern

suuuunday. we had brunch. as we should, one of the last proper weekends before doctor starts working random hours and days again. i dont mind that schedule, but i do enjoy a standard weekend.

the flat we are moving to next month never went online cos we grabbed it so swiftly, but i found a property history page with an ad from 2015. gives an idea of the feel - modern, spacious. also, without any personality, sure, but u cant have eveyththing can you...  maybe later we will have our dream home. meanwhile, i think this will do just FINE :)
this is the view from the street. boring, but at the end there is coldharbour lane, and promise of *life*.

yesterday we headed to Tate modern. my brainfart, i admit. ive never cared for art museums so why go now? i think its just the reputation the building has, and  something different to do. it IS an amazing building, i really got inspired by the place itself actually. but walking into the first room that had installations and an almost blank canvas, i allllmost regretted. the picasso's and dali's dont really impress me more than the hammer hanging from the ceiling. but, overall i think it was still worth going and doing something on a saturday. i also did a bit of shopping and met a translator to receive the translations we need for the residence card application (my wage slips etc).

scenery seat in the bus;

 very nice entrance.

this one artists work just reminded me of IKEA stuff in the recent years. all the colors i dislike in geometric patterns...  i should point out that i am a fan of ikea and they often have very nice patterns and design that i enjoy. but this trend with green, orange, yellow etc...   it makes me wanna vomit.

these paintings were actually visually pleasing, i can say i like them.

Rothko. where do u buy canvases that size? also, his 'room' was opposite to this huge Monet painting of water lilies, cos apparently Rothko was inspired by Monet's style. im not sure i saw the connection but oki doki. Rothko paintings are also easy on the eye, but dont give me anything either.

Sainsbury's receipt. now i think this was 'modern art'.

something.
 more something.
 ummmm?
 ...
 ...?!

this one had text and various materials, i could almost relate.
back to not relating at all.
 hair and stuff. not relating.
photos. but not anything of interest to me.

this looked like a huge, cool rubber mat. its Beirut! i can appreciate this, not sure if as art, of if just an object but maybe the difference is not big.
i really enjoyed the space in Tate M.
 video installation
on our way home i spotted a deer or something on the wall of a council building, made from wire or something... looked nice in the sunlight.

should go visit my grandmother this sunday

i just found out that Gonzale in dA is occasionally living/visiting Lebanon and Syria as well. cool coincidence, i dont know her well but we have common dA friends and i know her by (good) reputation. anyway, i commented on her blog and she immediately replied that we might be able to meet up. she is staying in beirut but could visit damascus. somethign she said prompted me to check the visa issue again and actually i now found info that said i could obtaina visa from the border. i then checked the connection between the 2 cities...
"There is no railway to Beirut, but buses link Damascus with Beirut (Charles Helou bus station), 115km, journey time 5 hours"
115km, 5 hours? fuck.me.

on sunday i obviously installed the most important things on my computer. now i continue with the rest. open office. office 2010. flashpaste. cuteFTP. wordweb. winamp + milk skin. lightroom. ccleaner. etc...

quickies in NY has two recent posts that fit well together perhaps, or i just like both; story of fav sexual experience & bw ceiling view.

this view of Damascus from a nearby hill or something requires looking the bigger view, it seems quite beautiful.

TLV babble

im planning on meeting Irisdall from dA in Tel Aviv, and i just looked at her gallery and found this. not a perfect photo but i kind of like it. it touches me, she looks so desperate. and he looks certain of his acts.

so far none of the israeli's that ive asked (3 people) have ANY idea how to go to Palestine. lol. someone said that they've heard of foreigners going but at least israelis cannot go. wonder why?? but i am a completely harmless finn, they should let me in, no? but it IS weird how come no one knows how i could get to their neighbor (if we use such friendly terms...). ill keep looking for answers...

i have now arranged to see Gil on the 9th.

the people coming to my home are Lihi and Barak. they are comedy writers :) i am compiling a list of my friends for them, those that have expressed their interested in meeting my replacements. and i should be meeting at least Daphna and Ohad whilst in TLV, friends of Lihi.

also, last week my boss was at a meeting abroad and met some people from out TLV office and one of them volunteered to be my 'going out' guide :D apparently my colleague in fact (same job title as me). cool!

sounds in the night

CO delivers: nobody understands emo bun. I DO I DO! speaking of which, i just met this girl last night, a friend of K's, who has 2 buns. we agreed to take portraitures of them things. i am excited! :)

i started the midsummer celebrations wee bit early apparently. woke up at K's place this morning. well not by accident really. id heard appraisal regarding his couch and the smell of fresh bed linen on it... i had to test as the opportunity presented itself. i fell asleep listening to Beatles' All you need is love and Pink Floyd's Shine on you crazy diamond. i had this moment there, while laying and listening, in which all the worries in the world did not matter and i was happy.

i am lately getting these 'school project interview' requests etc. through facebook! hand in hand with a friend request of course... uh, no? FB is really coming the medium for any communication at all, for some people. sorry im so limited...

illustrating. or wanting to.

woah. i installed Adobe Illustrator finally, i got the spark to try learn...ive been meaning to do it for years but never really got to it. im completely confused but its good shit. i wish i knew how it works. i know someone who knows Illustrator...so i need to bug them i guess.

theres actually a work thing that would require some design... or we can do without, but itd be cool to have a design and since it wont invent itself i shall give it a try then. i am the visuals responsible...and i Do want things to look nice at the site. theres only so many aspects i can affect but this is one...finally.

i opened a new document and started testing... still confused as well, but it looks like i could be an awesome abstract artist.

i got lost in contactmusic.com yesterday after that hilarious 'in a boat'-video....and found NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK VIDEOS!!!11 JOOOOORRRDAAAAAAN!! I LUVS U! :P hehe. my favorite song was probably i'll be loving you forever, i mustve seen the video LOTS of times. and it still makes me smile.

kubb: chemical

terribly hard these past days. some chemical unbalance goin on, it under control and repair so ill just hang in here and wait.

the new colleague started today. didnt really get to know him much yet, altho he was talkative. good, i guess.

i plan to make myself momentarily happier by dyeing my hair (which was due anyway) and switching to the new handbag i got from Barcelona.

hmm, i havent bought a new parfum for a bit. yay, i guess? i certainly have enough. but, now im thinking of getting a new screen/display at home. i have 2 and would then give away the other, the smaller and less 'qualified' one. the huge screens at work are making me greedy. but greediness is (besides one of the 7 sins) a very normal quality in humans. a 'human quality' in fact. i guess you can repress it some. whatever. i just try to hang in here from day to another and really couldnt care less about these things... i aim to improve my qualities in some areas of personality and behavior, but 'greediness' is not at the top of the list. what is?

-respecting other beings more
-treating others better
-not dwelling in or elongating anger, hate or bitterness
-concentrating in current moment
-seeing things in perspective/being realistic

the yes and no of movies

JVCD - the movie. i wonder how this works... any good? maybe we are about to see new sides to...JCVD :D

ive been watching trailers at apple's site again, but theres so many i skip because i just cant stand them.
-family/christmas/children's movies
-disney movies
-animated movies
-shit horror movies, titles being like "the revenge" "distant scream" and "darkness returns", as they usually depict pissed-off ghosts/souls/whatnot behaving like idiots (illogically)
-movies with all black cast that usually revolve around family life (nothing wrong with the color but i just cant relate)

what i found interesting is that while probably not the first movie production to do so, 2012 suggests at the end of the trailer "google search: 2012", its just one step beyond i think. google has been the synonym for web search for a while now. altho they advice you to google search, rather than just google, i think the idea is to speak in the viewers language, asking to buy or read or wait si old. its cool to ask you to google or download. not to mention it probably entwines better with the marketing efforts of the web-revolving world...

Gus Van Sant's Milk seems like my kind of movie. seems to follow the usual hero-story plot, even if based on reality, but i tust Van Sant and Sean Penn can make it magic :)

the Soloist goes to my to-watch list as well, the music with apparently great acting caught me.

and finally, I have loved you so long appeals to me greatly. emotive but (hopefully( real-enough drama.

nice photomanip work...

almost ready to open a gallery

so i used the black oil paint to paint a thin black layer on the canvas last night. not sure how long it takes to dry... need to google it.

cool photography; Nadav Kander. too compliacted and fancy website tho.

mac keyboard, only a couple mm's thin....sweetness. it fits my needs well and Arttu was kind enough to borrow it...so.

Arttu's Sony Vaio, in my tender care. we shall see if ill actually need/use it. i think i might wanna try see if it gets me up from bed earlier...since i sometimes wake up but am too lazy to movie and just fall asleep again. i need a motive. if i have the internet within hands reach, it might work, who knows. i just dont have much table space near bed so in this case 'hands reachä was my underwear drawer... but so what, im sure the little Sony is happy there :) now i just need a pink tiny mouse from eBay...

ive been watching CSI again but im up to the latest episodes so its one of those annoying wait-a-week situations to see the next one.

since friday im officially unemployed. and the coming week i dont have either any classes for the possibly upcoming job, nor anything else. it just makes u really passive laying at home doing nothing. kinda feeds itself, being a vicious circle. i sent an email asking if i could attend some courses next week which interest me. well see. but i should definitely find something to do, other than just meeting friends.

should be snowing tomorrow, acc to forecast

i ended up on a date tonight, despite my promises of avoiding such activities. its the IT-guy ive been chatting with for a bit. i guess the date went well but im not sure, what he thought i mean. i guess ill find out soon enough.

what made my day was a message from an old friend Karri, whom we disconnected with almost 10 yrs ago. i always felt the guilt, like it was all my fault. dunno, but im glad i heard from him, i dont think i couldve made myself write him for quite a while yet, altho i thought about it, especially since he appeared in Facebook. you might say all the shit u want about Facebook, how it makes us eveb further self obsessed with our image and all, but ive made some really good connections there with old colleagues etc. 'nyways... i am meeting him tomorrow. suddenly it feels like no time has passed. only 1 third of our lives...eh.

questioning

friday is Leonard Cohen day. and im hopefully meeting Elmor and Avner then as well, theyre coming to Finland for the concert, but the schedule is busy so we'll see if they can spare some minutes.

i ask questions a lot. not always because of the answer itself. but because the way people react and answer things tells its own story. if i ask someones favorite color.... it really doesnt matter if its blue or red... but if it's "i don't know" "im colorblind" "maybe blue, but red is nice too, oh and orange, and green sort of..." or "fuck colors". i did a crazy question spree with someone today and the results spoke for themselves, not too openminded attitude.

surrealsushi.com Jeff Simpson's art. me likes.

ive been a bit down the past couple weeks now. more so than usual. Arttu came over to cheer me up which is nice. i just browse bunnies 50% of my spare time, the one thing to make me feel good i guess. well not quite, but to exaggarate. Maria called me today. she had luch with Jari, our classmate from business school, and they discussed about arranging a meeting one of these days...

weather report looking baaaad

not sure if today will be any better than the one before. i just got up, and while sitting here by the computer, someone rang the doorbell. ok, it was the repairman that we were informed of a couple weeks before, they are checking the bathroom floors. he walked in, knocked the floor, said its loose, i asked if its my fault, he said no, and added that there will be a reconstruction of the floor later, i will be notified in more detail beforehand. and he walked out. okay great, i THINK this means i will loose my bathroom for a while. which is not the nicest thing. *forced smile*

some of the photographers i met in portugal are in dA, i noticed! yay.

unpacked and ready to go again

i think for the first time ever i managed to unpack my suitcase within less than like 2 months of return. Arttu needed his suitcase back so i emptied the contents on my floor. which actually does not change the look of my place in either direction.

hee someone pointed out a search with my name produces more related stuff in dA than my actual work. these must be some of my favs;

hopeless stapler

i actually had a pretty good day altho i guess i was a little pissy in the morning. i just needed some time on my own. now im getting it, and to be honest things are not that bad. Arttu arrived from Iran, and he got sick on the plane, fewer and stuff, so i went to his place, brought food and we talked. apparently the trip was really nice. they met lotsa smart really nice people just randomly. from everything he told, i absolutely wanna go there some day.

but instead of going to Iran...i just booked myself to the UK... ill have to call mom tomorrow and ask for money. how embarrassing is that? i just HAVE TO see Anthony and the Johnsons, in London, with the London Symphony Orchestra. and i would die if i didnt? im really embarrassed right now. if we go somewhere in december with miss R, that means 3 foreign trips for me the rest of this year. and i dont know how i should be able to save up enough money for december if i keep spending it like this. but you only live once...and thats my excuse for everything.

unfortunate disaster

some stuff at work (not on my responsibility but anyhow) went really shitty. i am somewhat in between there, communicating stuff back and forth between ppl. but nevertheless my day is ruined because something this unfortunate happened. not a nice wake up, that phone call. and now i should concentrate in photos... :S

Natalie Shau has also some interesting imaginative stuff, altho not perfectly up my alley but i have great respect for her style.

mother of everything

oh dear this Dario Argento movie Mother of Tears. *rolls eyes*. full of 'goths' with too much make up and in need of a good psychiatrist. and Asia, the lead character, is hearing voices in her head. yes, i know its a horror/superstition movie...the world would be duller without. im just not getting it. but the goths, serious, fuckin annoying, should be taught some manners.

most movies have characters that i think need HELP. makes for more interesting movies i guess. that, ore/and i have an issue with people.

but okay the truth is i have no understanding for Argento's style, which is a shame i guess, i have respect for his work. its just too far out there, realism is not part of the plot.

funny how they just talked about the witches being involved in the "fall of rome". i was reading a book the other day about this famous topic. why and how... it's apparently blown out of proportion, Rome did not fall that bad, things did change but slowly, nothing that amazing there. but really...Rome was getting a biiiit huge aye? hard to control that big of an area.

i bought this print from dA, Shyble's artwork. i put it in my kitchen, above the stove. her stuff is great.

i've found, and been found, by old class mates in Facebook. weird to see all of em...some look the same, others very different. theres no communication, just the add. very interesting sign of our times.

regarding the movie, it reminds me of how we once discussed with F about "evil". that perhaps i do not understand the concept or existence of such, if there is such a thing that is.

the apartment opposite is having a party i see, i can see inside, they are sitting by the window, the music is really loud but i like it. there is life around me. whereas some appreciate the silence and nature around them, for me its different. i do have appreciation for nature though no doubt, i just grew to stay away from it. childhood...nature...

im watching this movie Quid pro Quo. interesting topic, of people who want to be paralyzed or get a rid of part of their body. i remember someone talking to me about this topic a while ago, very confused. of course its odd, but theres a lot of odd things going on in this world. im not surprised. as long as its not paid for with my tax money, people are free to do what they want to themselves. and im pretty openminded.
