relaxing times at Ridgemont High

important news right in: kitty survives China earthquake!

i should go to china to rescue kitties.

i got a note like this:
"My school debating team is currently researching the topic "should nude art be regulated or restricted", and we are the negative team (nude art should NOT be regulated). I am contacting you on behalf of my team because we would greatly appreciate an opinion or view from an actual nude photographer on the recent nude photograph confiscation raid in Australia (A nude photographer had his artwork confiscated by police from a public art gallery because the photo was of a nude child).

If you feel like reading a bit more about it theres a newspaper article which provides a little more in-depth information: [link]

Basically, if you could write back maybe a paragraph outlining your opinion, we would all appreciate it greatly :) You don't have to, I understand if you don't (I imagine you have a lot of notes and messages to get through).

Thanks,
from the MGHS debating team"

i replied, and i know i made some simplifications...but im expecting them to use google and do their own job

" hi
thanks for the note. unfortunately im in a big hurry atm and also not a very good writer... but to help, i suggest you consider looking at the subject from the side of:
-nude art never caused harm (as far as i am aware, u can google it), now or in the past
-the intention of art is to civilize and give recreational thoughts or feelings, not the same intention as porn has for example
-very open countries with free speech and no censorship (such as scandinavian countries and many european countries) do not have as many problems with crime or paedophilia for example than those that are restricted and apply censorship (usa, russia)...in fact im sure you can find information that backs up that certain level of openness is good as it creates less tension
-nudity is the natural state of human beings, old cultures (europe, africa for instance) are aware of this and nudity is not a taboo, it seems that some of the younger cultures, maybe due to religion or whatnot, have issues with it. a tolerant stand to nudity only makes it less taboo and therefor less obsessed about, if we talk about sex crimes for example.
-we all know how laws that restrict people work...against themselves...if you deny something, people will want it even more than before
-if pedophilia is a problem, the resolution is not to try hide everything that is nude, but to find the real reasoning behind the 'sickness' to be able to fix the problem.
-how are people supposed to feel natural and good about themselves and their body if nudity is hidden, as if it was something dirty and wrong?
-porn and nude art can usually be separated pretty easily, art websites (where i have been a policy administrator in, here in dA) can draw the line, its not that hard...

heh, then we do have the question if porn should be regulated or restricted either...but thats another discussion

i hope that helps
