iyi akşamlar/mesa el kheyr
we went out the sea side today with Yusuf. Hatay is sort of surrounded by mountains, and it seems to be like a collection of little towns, rather than one city, but the population is all in all 1.2 million. anyway, we went to the sea side of the area with some minibusses and climbed up to a water tunnel that the romans built, and there were tunnels and graves they did also, from around 1000BC. very impressive, but my favorite part was probably the sea... it was a beautiful view, peaceful.
this collection of towns is quite worn out and broken, horse carriages are used and things are scattered around. i have to say it reminds me just a bit of palestina. more than a bit actually. very interesting all in all. and this is my 2nd experience with and arab family and i find similarities; relatives coming and going in and out the house, everyone is very talkative, women cook together, some pay attention to me and some do not. i just observe and Yusuf translates some things to me.
for breakfast we had esmek (the flat bread thing) with toppings like fresh cheese, peanut butter, olives, honey and jam. and just now i had great pizza, with olibves, tomato, salami and corn.
i bought a bus ticket to damascus for tomorrow, 7euros.
