found new friends at the university

i had a very interesting afternoon/evening. the university thing was a lot of fun :) Egemen picked me up from Besiktas, we had a chauffeur and a car with 'official' plates even so i felt very VIP :D i had a quick look at the university area, very fancy. the most expensive university in Istanbul i hear. and it shows. situated high up on a hill (mountain by finnish standards), with a view to the Black Sea and the faculties are very nice. its where the rich kids go to, i have been told by them and others.

i was somewhat nervous but the audience (many of them dA members :) had plenty of questions and i enjoyed talking - as usual. even got a bunch of flowers at the end and then i was sent home with a taxi. the driver spoke german so it was nice to exchange some thoughts with him. he used to live in Frankfurt for 10yrs with his first wife. and all was good except she didnt want to move to Istanbul. so they broke up and he is now remarried. very nice guy, introduced me to some areas on the way and whatnot.

the entrance of KoƧ University.

a nice cafe area at the school

the school was plastered with these posters!

view towards Bosphorus and Istanbul

a rug i got for the kitchen. 2,5e if i remember correctly.

salads at the market, decorated nicely with radishes.

the electricity bill, arrives likes this (without envelope i mean), and the paper is almost as thin as my 1-ply toilet paper. i cant tell for what period is it, but i guess i have to pay anyway, 8e it looks like. and where to pay? at the bank maybe, or at the office of this company... need to ask about it from Volkan...

a cafe where they sell kumpirs, those stuffed potatoes.

the standard turkish bread in a grocery store. 45eurocents.

last night me and the doctor were stopped on the dark street by the police who was asking for ID. apparently they just wanted to make sure i wasnt a russian hooker that he was selling. he showed his doctor's ID and said im finnish and that was okay then. also, in Ankara when we walked into a hotel they told us it is a "family hotel", and they dont give female/male couples rooms unless they got marriage certificate to show. err. right. again, his profession and my nationality turned their head. apparently there is plenty of russian hookers in Ankara too. i got apologized in english. im starting to wonder how much harder doctor's life would be if he was seeing a russian girl...
