Norbs

 Norbert is our current foster. a gentle soul, well behaved, but hes had it rough. he has cat HIV and FCGS - which is an acronym for something shitty and painful. hes on loads of meds and now we just wait and see if things turn around for him.

i was listening to this podcast with Dean Spears who co-authored some book on depopulation. he seems very concerned by it. more concerned than the UN projections would lead you to be. but hes made his own projections, in a Musk funded initiative. ok he could still be right, after 6 decades we might head towards a population decline. but some the arguments sound too simplified to me, like the “more people is good because people invent and improve things”… or “depopulation means less people being born to enjoy life” which just sounds off to me on some philosophical level. im getting pro-life and handmaids tale vibes. which might be the intention but he sounds more ideological than he leads on. also his solution is just “making parenting more attractive, men pitching in more etc”. the podcaster to her credit (Louise Perry) does challenge this, and then as she presents her gut feeling theory which is that low child mortality might subconsciously affect our motivation to reproduce, Dean seems to get flustered and starts quibbling.
