well someones not dying from covid
re: Sainbury's xmas ad (Guardian). i know its very much a business decision too, but i am glad to see the supermarkets take a stand together. i've seen the ad and it's really heartwarming and wonderful.
NHS has just started giving rapid covid-19 test kits to staff couple weeks ago. doctor picked up a box of 25 tests, and he should do 2 tests a week and obviously report the results. i realise there has been availability issues and whatnot but i feel like end of november is pretty late... UK has been pretty slow with all covid stuff though, so im also not holding my breath with the vaccinations that are due to start next week. i mean for any country that must be a logistical nightmare, especially with the Pfizer vaccine that requires -70c.... and the people need 2 vaccines like 2 or 3 weeks apart. it should take a year to vaccinate even half the population... (which would be enough to normalise life as that would cover so much of the risk groups). anyway my bet is that doctor will get his vaccine in march. as a health care professional he is due 2nd after the most vulnerable which i guess is care homes and those over 80 or something.
EDIT 11.12: doctor got the vaccine yesterday. actually he was offered it on the 9th, but with 2 people having had allergic reactions they were super cautious. anyway now he has it. im really proud of him, although it's not something he did. so i guess im just happy? so, i was wrong about it. i think being at a central London uni hospital emergency department helped though, a GP in Wigan might not get it just yet. i hope im still underestimating UKs ability to act under pressure. i just havent had very good examples...
well, the rapid tests doctor got from work are apparently not great, with fail % of 50 (Independent).
time for a new phone. red iPhone 12. stil not sure if i regret getting red, not really my thing, but somehow i was drawn to something different. i was thinking "it will be easier to spot and find". as if a phone case wouldn't sort that issue. eh.curtain holdbacks are horribly traditional as a thing but it seemed like we just need them... got these for bedroom:
yesterday i injured my foot once again. only the 3rd time in 2 years. i was just going to the fridge during my work day and hit my foot on the old vacuum cleaner on the floor. well, we all hit our toes into things all the time. but for me it seems to not end well, ive learned the hard way. first, its just painful, but slightly later it doesnt feel right... and for me, that funny tingle was a sign that made me devastated, i just dont want a boot & crutches again. overall, i know life this winter will be spent inside, so its not even that, its just... i am still hoping we could go abroad into the sun during the holidays. aaaanyway i knew the toe or foot was "off" but didn't want to deal with it and waited for doctor to come home from work. he did and looked at it and told me i should go to A&E to get an xray. then i felt bad i didnt go while he was at work, now we would spend the evening there too. and so we did. luckily i only had a tiny fracture (phalanx fracture). far more painful than it looks. the most important thing is i dont get a boot and crutches. thats really all i care about. the toe needs to be supported and taped to the next toe but oh well. the clinician who saw me was confused seeing doctor with me - he had just left work a few hours prior after all. and his first reactions was "why didn't you jump queue?!". ive just slowly accepted they actually do that here, although its not officially okay, but yet its done kind of thing. in turkey it was obviously standard practise. and do as the romans do, i guess? but coming to UK im like no, its unethical. and then i find they dont really care, either! when i replied to the clinician that well, jumping the queue is unethical, he was confused. maybe i couldve expressed it in another way, i think he took it to suggest im calling him unethical too. i guess its questionable to spend the night queuing in the emergency department when you could have done the whole thing in a fraction of the time. and if my life depended on it, i wouldnt have. anyway, here we are, my foot aches to step on. i hope it wont last more than few weeks as they suggest.
Tuca & Bertie on Netflix is great. the next movie in movie club (with Arttu) is blackkklansman. need to watch it this weekend.
