sounds & silence

weird story: https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2026/09/21/the-violent-feud-that-shocked-the-horse-world#intcid=_the-new-yorker-homepage-bkt-a_dadb56c1-dcd1-40d1-a9e0-40bac2471f95_cygnus-personalized

i didn't know BBC reports news in Pidgin. i didn't even know what pidgin [english] was, now i've educated myself. interestingly it was kind of readable while requiring a bit of effort. very cool. https://www.bbc.com/pidgin

yesterday before Arttu left for the airport we went to see this colour& music thing at the park here. Colourscapes was cool and included a womens string ensemble and the vibe in these air filled  "balloon spaces" was otherwordly.

Westminster Cathedral on thursday. music, choir and a lightshow on the ceiling. somewhat touristy but enjoyable nevertheless.

on wednesday we went on a tour of the oldest underground station in the world, Baker street. still in service, obviously, but there are closed areas where we went to see & learn about the history. it wasnt very photogenic but caught this shot from somewhere. overall nice tour, but left a lot of questions, i plan on going to TfL museum soon to learn more.

after the tour, there was a palestinian restaurant nearby which i was happy to support. good food as well. on the wall there was a large tv showing music videos and occasionally drone footage of whats left of gaza... grim. and i think totally appropriate, i think i enjoy when the harsh reality it rubbed in so we dont get to forget it.

i don't know if it's an age thing, but I've become perhaps over sensitive to loud sounds like the door slamming. to the point where i needed a solution. well, needed or really wanted. either way, i bought these silicone pads, and so far, i have sorted the front door and the new bathroom door.  now, even if because of airflow or whatever they close at higher velocity than ideal, the resulting sound - while still inconvenient - is dampened. im quite satisfied with myself. 2 more doors to go.

i didnt use fabric softener for years, cos its kind of unnecessary. but now i just really want things to smell good so i use scented fabric softeners. and perfumes and scented candles... even room diffusers...  ive gone all the way into things that smell good. i think that combined with starting my sunday by laying in the sun on our extremely soft living room rug... it sounds like some sort of hedonism? i was no stranger to enjoying things before but now im really leaning into it. i want comfort, good scents and restful sleep.
