'kalsarikännit'

some words listed by Mental Floss without an equivalent in english (or other languages, i guess.
list 1
list 2
the only finnish word to make it to the list is myötähäpeä (fremdschämen in german) which is
"The kindler, gentler cousins of Schadenfreude, both these words mean something akin to “vicarious embarrassment.” Or, in other words, that-feeling-you-get-when-you-watch-Meet the Parents."

i asked my friends about additional finnish words that belong on this list. Avner suggested kalsarikännit. it means 'getting drunk alone/at home, wearing your long johns'.

now, im gonna try updating my iPhone software...

in the news; Gorbachev said that the Soviet Union should have been preserved. i know nothing about the subject (which is pretty embarassing for having lived next door to soviet/russia?), but somehow i got a feeling like, umm, no. life apparently wasnt that freakin awesome in the soviet, and it wasnt going to get awesome. is it awesome now? maybe not. but perhaps the 'newly' independent countries appareciate their independence and that makes up for it.

Obama said a few days ago that Iran 'will pay a price' for the assassination plot. pls, it sounds like the plot was to assassinate Obama himself, thats how big of a show they are making it. maybe a good excuse to start a war on Iran, those evil-assassination-terrorists?? im a little disappointment with Obama here.

waiting for my visa here...dum di dum...  should hear about it next week....
