game addiction on top everything

past couple days were a weird combination of contexts.  in finland it was national holiday (may 1st) which means no work! and it kind of started thursday afternoon with work shutting down earlier. and its a party kind of national holiday which for me means prosecco. ok, dandy. also, on wednesday my coworkers arranged a beginners class to Minecraft and i got hooked on that immediately spending like 8 hours on it. and thursday night TestBash Home conference started at 8pm. so its like... Minecraft...May 1st party...testing conference...  err. last night was also Finnish Londoners pub night and we did a video meet with our Irish friend, doctors old work mate Paddy. so i was triple booked? (until the conference ended at 8pm). the conference stuff was recorded though so i can watch later the stuff i missed.  there were some interesting talks and classes and things and there is a few that i will have to watch later on. Full program here.
i especially (but not only) enjoyed:
Bug Hunt Live by Mark Winteringham
Evil User Stories by Anne Oikarinen
Testers Survival Guice to Joining a Continuous Delivery Project by Amy Phillips

James Lyndsey's Black Box Puzzles also deserve a mention, i already puzzled myself with them beforehand.

London is still doing the NHS clap at 8pm on thursdays. when doctor is home, i just give him a little private clap haha. but other times, when i hear the car horns and clapping from outside, i go to the window and join for a bit. always reminds me of gezi protests although the situation is so different. the more i looked at UK before moving the more obvious it became that they have a religious relationship with the NHS. they loooove it. free healthcare being something i really respect when choosing a country to live in, this was all good  with me. but its even bigger than i thought. it might sound awkward but Turkey has Atatürk.... and UK has NHS. nor the royals or the queen even, but NHS. there are similarities. rule number one is that neither can be criticised. ironically, both governments are lately also trying to take their respective idols down... although in UK thats on hold now with Boris thanking NHS for saving his life and whatnot.
anyway, doctor has been having free meals at work lately at as restaurants are donating meals to them. they set up a zen chilling room for the staff at the hospital - which they honestly always should have but corona pushed them to do it. last he messaged me from work, Kelly's ice cream truck had parked in front of A&E, giving free ice cream to front line workers there. a lot of companies are doing all kinds of NHS discounts... of course seriously many or most are mainly riding the good publicity. like, it probably made business sense for UberEats to donate free meals, and for Uber to give a few trip discounts... as they are struggling in the marketspace here. and all the other companies, offering fresh ready meals at -50% discount, Gillete donated free shavers i think, the list is SO LONG . doctor is loving the discounts though so he is running with them.

im so proud of making the space under our oven functional. this is nothing new, it happened in december, but i still marvel at it! for me, the space under the oven should OBVIOUSLY have a little drawer where you store the shelves and other oven things...  im just used to it cos ive always had it. so then why the fuck did Wickes designa kitchen where this doesnt exist. where you expect to find the drawer. it's just covered with a matching piece of board. okay so Wickes is obviously not the fanciest kitchen brand out there, but come on? how lazy do you have to be to not utilise a perfectly could storage space? aaaanyway i pulled out the cover piece and bought magnet push cathes and hinges and had the handyman make it into a kind of door.

also this is my self made bathroom door lock. after moving in, i noticed the missing lock but since we dont really need the lock - we just close the door, and we are getting new doors later anyway - i forgot about it until like 2 days before my birthday party in march. quickly orderded this from amazon and voila. temp solution done.

tonight we have "tickets" to watch live comedy with Kiri Pritchard-McLean and a few other quality comedians. yay?

im just starting to get irritable with this lockdown thing. little things are getting on my nerves. i UNDERSTAND why we need lockdown and cant lift the restrictions too early. but im just human and im reacting to this. i want to go out and do stuff.
